| Well, I actually fell from the cliffs by the ravine/creek at Moss-Wright park when I was five. My thinking was that I would throw pebbles into the water, as I stepped near the edge, the grass was high and I couldn't see the edge of the probably six-foot cliff. I remember falling and extreme pain and, then landing on the stones below. Only afterward did I learn that the pain was from falling and slipping underneath barbed wire. My dad did the most unselfish thing and jumped right after me underneath the barbed wire. We both got cut up, but I don't have to have my own children to know the love a father has for his son, and so I understand all y'all are saying you fear your children may come to harm. I pray that they never do.
Also, I am afraid of dying gruesome deaths also, but my intense fear is a preoccupation with spiders and being bitten by the two poisonous varieties. I've never been afraid of snakes, though, and I guided a canoe down a creek while watching my back while a cottonmouth hissed at me in the nearby water. |

| I hate to beat a dead horse, but the kid thing really gets me. Right after Hannah Jane started walking I had this image of her falling off of the sidewalk into the road and seeing a car tire go righ over her head. It was such a graphic image that I just couldn't shake it.
And the climbing and jumping off of things... We joke that this phase of parenting is more like suicide watch than actual parenting. It's work just keeping tem alive.
Outsie of kids I'd have to say I fear some huge societal collapse whre we enter another Great Depresion or are suddenly a territory of North Korea or some crazy thing like that. Haing just typed that I realize that I have lived among the hippes for far too ling now. |

| That's funny, I was listening to a radio show (Phil Valentine) yesterday and he was talking about the hippie population in Oregon.
The images are a hard thing to shake off. Every time I hear of some kid getting injured or killed it's in my head for awhile. I'm pretty protective of Christian, but I try not to baby him. I realize he's going to get hurt, break a bone, need stitches, whatever. Especially as much climbing as he is doing right now.

I have to agree with the child thing. When Jubilee learned how to arrange furniture to get what she wants I became very nervous. My mom told us a story of my sister climbing up on top of the fridge as a child and drinking an entire bottle of Dimatapp. She was fine but slept over 12 hours.
My worst fear is that Jubilee will climb up on the kitchen counter, turn on the garbage disposal and put either a hand or foot in there which will then be ground to a bloody pulp. (maybe I can thank Goonies for the idea). It's not a daily fear, but when it comes to my mind, I can't get rid of it for days. |

| | Yeah, anytime I need to stick my hand in the garbage disposal, I unplug it first. But even then I have irrational fears of poltergeists suddenly activating it and cutting my hand off. |

| | Okay, the garbage disposal thing really gets me too. A lady that used to babysit my sister was cleaning a deer, saw a huge chunk of venison go down the sink, and instinctively stuck her hand in there. She had it bandaged up for a month. Now every time I run the disposal, i think to myself, don't stick your hand in there, don't stick your hand in there. |

| Don't worry about that. Since the Great Depression, our government has set up to many catch falls. The stock market actually fell in the 80's farther than it did in the 20's, but we didn't feel it near as bad b/c of the planning. _________________ thanks for registering everyone, be sure to post and spread the word! |

| I am extremely afraid of heights. I panick on those Firemen's poles on kids playsets. I know that I could jump off the whole set and be fine, but it scares the devil out of me.
I am also afraid of mice. I called my dad at 3 o'clock in the morning on my cell phone from my bedroom (upstairs in their house) when I was home from college because I heard a mouse in the room. He came upstairs but wasn't happy. He thought that I was calling to tell him that I was in an accident or something. They had gone to bed before I got home and didn't know I was home yet. I slept in his bed for weeks after that. He slept in my bed until I went back to school from Christmas break. They then had to move my bedroom back downstairs.
I am also afraid that my husband will die before I do. I can't imagine spending years without him. |

| So Jennifer I have a horrific story for you about a mouse.
I was in Iraq for my first tour and I was sleeping in a small stone building with no heat. These stone buildings stayed pretty cool so they were great for the summer but freezing in winter. I slept wearing everything I owned on that winter and had like four blankets on my bed. Anyway, so I woke up early one morning and had to pee real bad so I pumped myself up to run to the port-a-potty outside. Of course I was freezing so I ran back to my room, jumped in my bed and pulled the covers back up to my neck to warm up quickly. And that's when I felt it ON MY HEAD! It took me a split second to figure out what was on my head and then I screamed, jumped out of bed and grabbed for my flashlight. When I shined it on the corner of my bed, there sat a little mouse looking back at me like, "what the heck are you doing? I was just trying to get warm!" It was so gross! I couldn't believe that mouse had crawled onto my head. I didn't know what to do so I slammed my fist down on the bed and he bounced off. I woke Melissa and Kristen, my roommates, up when I screamed and they freaked out too when they saw the mouse on my bed. It was hilarious watching three Army Lieutenants freaking out over such a tiny mouse. LOL But after he was gone, I checked my covers for more and then crawled back into bed and went right back to sleep. This was like December or January and by then I'd seen so much that not a lot phased me. Melissa and Kristen, however, couldn't go back to sleep.
When I walked over to work that day, I found out that one of the male Captain's next door had one drop on his face from his mosquito net the very same night. Either situation is bad, but I think I'd prefer one on the side of my head than my face.
Judge me if you will, but I found the mouse in our room a couple days later and took care of him... _________________ Susan |

| I'm not afraid of mice. There was one in our building up on the 5th floor (my floor) and I was afraid maintenance would kill him so I decided to play humanitarian and take him outside. Call it my "Snow White" personality coming out if you will. Well, I went to pick him up and the little bastard bit me. I still felt sorry for him so I got a small trashcan and flung him in there by the tail and took him outside.
I was sure I had rabies or something but I didn't die. I'm not sure that I would do it all over again though. |
